KEARNY — Barbara McGuire, a former state representative in District 23, plans to run for a new Legislative District 8 seat.

Tom Elliott, McGuire’s longtime adviser, said that the former lawmaker already has endorsements from local, state and national officials as well as local groups, unions and businesses.

McGuire, a Democrat, served two terms in the old district. Her motto of “EAR — efficient, accountable, responsive” government will continue as her guiding philosophy in policy to improve state and local economies, according to a press release.

As well as improving the economy, McGuire said that if elected, she would address real estate recovery, education, growth and quality-of-life issues.

Elliott described McGuire as “a moderate Democrat, businesswoman and Salvation Army director with decades of service to rural Arizona communities.” She has expertise in natural resources, military affairs, public safety, community support, long-term care and other issues, according to the press release.

She has community, business interests and family throughout the area in Globe, Casa Grande, San Manuel, Superior, San Tan Valley and Kearny.

More information is available on McGuire’s website, www.mcguire2012.com, or her Facebook page. She may be reached through email at barbmcguire@hotmail.com or by phone at 520-363-5002.
